Safe Climate Caucus Calls on Speaker Boehner to Schedule Debate on Climate Change
WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Rep. Henry A. Waxman and twenty-one members of the Safe Climate Caucus wrote to Speaker Boehner asking him to schedule a debate on the House floor on the science of climate change and the nation's response to this growing threat.
In the letter the members write: “We have a moral obligation to protect the planet for future generations. In the past few weeks, searing heat and deadly wildfires have scorched the West, reminding us again of what is at stake. History will not judge the House of Representatives kindly if we continue to ignore the mounting danger.”
The letter was signed by Reps. Henry A. Waxman, Bobby L. Rush, Chris Van Hollen, Doris O. Matsui, Jared Huffman, Earl Blumenauer, Rush Holt, Raul M. Grijalva, Peter DeFazio, Jim Moran, Barbara Lee, Steve Cohen, John Garamendi, Donna F. Edwards, Ben Ray Lujan, Peter Welch, Paul D. Tonko, Lois Capps, Hank Johnson, Carolyn B. Maloney, Keith Ellison, and Adam Schiff. The Safe Climate Caucus members have made a commitment to talk every day on the House Floor about the urgent need to address climate change.
