Congressional Art Competition Winner

“I’d like to congratulate Jasmine for her outstanding entry and recognize all of the participants for their hard work, dedication to the arts and beautiful artwork,” Congressman Waxman said.

On May 11, 2012 Congressman Henry A. Waxman (CA-30), announced the winner of the California 30th District’s 2012 Congressional Art Competition.  The winner,  Jasmine Chen, will have her painting, ”Trail of Tears,”  displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and will travel to Washington, D.C. to  attend a ceremony in recognition of her artistic achievement.  Ms. Chen is in 11th grade and attends the Archer School for Girls.

Since 1982, the U.S. House of Representatives has sponsored a nationwide high school arts competition.  All high school students in the 30th congressional district were invited to submit their artwork for the competition.  Ms. Chen’s piece was chosen by a panel of experienced judges and the announcement was made at a reception held at the University of California, Los Angeles.
