  • Rep. Waxman Raises Late Mail Delivery Concerns with the U.S. Postmaster General
    Dec 21, 2005  - Rep. Waxman has received an unprecedented number of complaints from his constituents in recent months concerning late mail delivery. His constituents have reported receiving their mail after 8:00 p.m., and sometimes as late as 10:30 p.m. Rep. Waxman has written to Postmaster General John E. Potter to ask that the issue be immediately addressed. He has asked the Postmaster for three years of data on postal operations, staffing, mail volume and delivery times.     Dec 15, 2005  - Without any hearings or Subcommittee consideration, the House Energy and Commerce Committee considered legislation to make sweeping changes to the nation’s food safety laws. Rep. Waxman opposes the legislation as “dangerous and irresponsible,” stating that it would leave a “critical gap” in our food safety defenses. The legislation would also preempt California’s successful and popular Proposition 65 – a twenty year old state measure to notify consumers when they are exposed to carcinogens or reproductive toxins.
