In a statement supporting the Senate-amended version of H.R. 2, Rep. Waxman highlighted the importance of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which would provide health insurance to 11 million low-income children. This bill would not only continue covering those currently enrolled, it would extend coverage to an additional 4.1 million currently uninsured children. Rep. Waxman stated that the cost of the CHIP would be offset by a cigarette tax.
